The GLAD program is a 6 – 8 week education and exercise program designed to help people with stiff and/or painful hips and knees or those diagnosed with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. The program is designed around research-based treatments and has been shown to decrease reported pain, use of pain medication and sick leave as a result of pain. The program is run by Lauren Traber, a GLAD certified, registered physiotherapist. The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 2;30-3;30, and the next block starts October 24, 2023. Kinesiology services consist of assessment of physical function followed by creation of a tailored exercise program to support the client's performance or recovery goals. This service includes Kinesiology and Personal Training. Kinesiology provides assessment and treatment plans for people managing physical injuries sustained in an automobile collision (ICBC), in sports or other life activities. Personal training provides assessment and treatment plans for general fitness, sport specific performance or other athletic training.

An active individual who has gone through several injuries himself, Ivan has experienced the pain and frustration of having an injury take you out of the game. Motivated to help clients obtain their health goals, Ivan provides client-centered care to help them get back into their favorite activity.

Makenna completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut where she also played NCAA Division 1 Field Hockey. She continued her studies in Canada at the University of Western Ontario where she achieved her Master’s in Physical Therapy.

Following Makenna’s personal experiences with physiotherapy services from a young age, she developed a passion for helping and motivating individuals and athletes get back to their active lifestyles. Makenna enjoys working collaboratively with a variety of clients by providing appropriate hands on treatment, exercise, and education related to their specific goals. Makenna has a special interest in concussion and vestibular management, as well as lower body injuries including hips, knees, and ankles. If you are looking to return to sport, work, or day to day activities Makenna is dedicated to get you back and provide tools to keep you doing what you love long term.

Daana Esfandiarpour, PT PhD, Postdoctoral fellowship in Sports Medicine

Daana is a registered physiotherapist, with PhD in physiotherapy. She has completed a 2 years postdoctoral fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta.

She has 10+ years of clinical practice in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy. She worked as a University Professor and Adjunct Professor in her home country and Canada (University of Alberta), and has been teaching fundamental courses such as physiotherapy in orthopedic disorders and sports injuries to Master and PhD students in physiotherapy for a long time.

Daana has an extensive educational background and clinical experience in treating Knee, Ankle, and Shoulder injuries. During her academic, she and her research team have published numerous scientific papers related to AC Injuries, Anterior knee pain (Patellofemoral Pain), Ankle injury and instability, Chronic neck pain, Knee Osteoarthritis, etc.

Andrea completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology with distinction at the University of Western Ontario where she also played on the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team. Andrea received the Academic All-Canadian award in all 4 years while studying and playing at Western. She continued her studies at the University of Western Ontario to achieve her Master’s in Physical Therapy.

In addition to athletes, Andrea also enjoys working with patients from paediatric to older adult populations. Specific clinical areas of interest for Andrea are foot/ankle, knees, hips, as well as osteoarthritis. Andrea helps clients achieve their activity goals using functional exercises that are practical for their abilities and resources, clear guidance on activity modification and return to activity pathways, as well as manual therapy.

When Andrea is not in the clinic, she enjoys playing multiple sports including soccer and golf as well as spending time with friends and family.

Alinah is a registered member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapy of British Columbia.

She graduated from Massage Therapy program in 2009 in Edmonton, Alberta and re-located to BC in 2018. Alinah is a lifelong learner and has completed several studies in BC related to massage, such as deep tissue, myofascial release, and trigger point re-lease. She has treated a wide range of ailments from sports-related injuries to motor vehicle accident injuries, postural imbalances, chronic conditions and other specific injuries. She has participated at charity golf tournaments and running marathons by providing sports massage to the athletes to enhance their performance and prevent injuries.

It is Alinah’s aspiration to heal your pain and help you get back to your daily activities through her continuing knowledge and hands on experience.

Midori completed her Master’s in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto in 2015 and has been with Allan McGavin since 2015. She enjoys treating all areas of the body, with special interests in the lower body, neck and lumbar spine. She has keen interest in optimizing performance for triathletes, runners, cyclists, racket sport athletes, and soccer players of all ages. Midori combines her undergraduate degree knowledge in ergonomics and kinesiology (SFU) with her post-graduate education in manual therapy (FCAMPT), intramuscular dry needling, bike fitting and exercise prescription (DNS Level 1) to understand how your body moves. She evaluates movement from a very detailed to global perspective. Her goals as a physiotherapist are to provide knowledge and a treatment approach that enables you to prevent and rehabilitate from injury in your pursuit of optimal health and performance. In the community, Midori co-created the Allan McGavin Run Club and has worked with SportMedBC Run Clinics, BalletBC, Red Truck Racing, Badminton BC, BC Soccer, PoCo Grand Prix, American Master Games, Arc’teryx, MEC, and HUB Cycling.

Midori grew up in the Fraser Valley, and played competitive soccer and badminton. In soccer, her team placed first twice at the B.C. youth soccer provincials, and second at Nationals. In badminton, she held a top ten position in U-19 women’s singles and mixed doubles in B.C. Midori now enjoys spending time with her family, doing triathlons, hiking, and spending time outdoors doing just about anything! She has completed the Whistler Fondo, 2 Olympic triathlons, 1 half Ironman and 1 full distance Ironman. All these activities have not been injury-free and Midori has a history of coping with and rehabilitating from low back and knee pain, ankle sprains, groin and rotator cuff strains, and a labral tear of the hip to name a few.

Aliana is a graduate of SFU with a Bachelor’s of Science with a Major in Kinesiology and Concentration in Active Health & Rehabiliation. Tabitha is a graduate from the accelerated program at West Coast College of Massage Therapy in New Westminster. She has spent the last 15+ years staying active and participating in sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball which helped her develop an interest in the human body. Due to her active lifestyle, she suffered from a few injuries herself over the years. She then realized how important it was to keep herself educated on her symptoms and learn from them in order to stay at an optimal state and prevent further injury. Thomas Scarr grew up on the Sunshine Coast where he developed a passion for exercise, sport, and physical activity. This led him to playing baseball in University and then pursuing a career in strength and conditioning as well as physical therapy.

In collaboration with his patients, Thomas uses education, exercise, dry needling and manual therapy to help them obtain their individualized goals.

Thomas’ special interests lie in everything sports physical therapy, but specifically in biomechanics, where he has performed research using force plate technology to get a better understanding of how his patients and athletes move.

While working as a kinesiologist, post undergrad at the University of Victoria, she fell in love with helping people return to optimal function following injury, and so she decided to pursue a career in physiotherapy, completing her Masters at the University of British Columbia. Zack grew up in the Okanagan where he participated in various sports, including basketball, football, and rugby. He continued this passion for sports at the university level where he played for the UBC Thunderbirds Football Team while completing a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He concluded his time at UBC by completing his Master’s in Physical Therapy.

Zack’s background in football has given him a special interest in treating athletes in contact sport and those recovering from concussion and vestibular related conditions. He also has a passion for helping clients living with persistent pain, and enjoys treating those with lower back, shoulder, and other upper extremity conditions. Zack uses a holistic approach, combining exercise, education, and manual therapy to empower his clients to get back to doing the things they love.

Every day he utilizes his advanced training in Manual Therapy, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS, Kineticore Dry Needling), McKenzie Manual Diagnosis and Therapy, together with his expertise in rehabilitation exercise.
